Friends of Muntz Park
And Selly Park Rec.

Selly Oak, Birmingham

On 18th January 2005 Friends of Muntz Park was officially started with its first AGM. We are very pleased with the support we have received. In July 2006 we altered our constitution to include Selly Park Recreation Ground.

We have been researching the history of Muntz Park and now have a historical interpretation board in the park. We discovered that the land was given to the City council to be used as a park on 20th May 1905. We now celebrate this date every year with a free Birthday Picnic on the closest Friday at 3.00pm. The children from Raddlebarn Primary School come out at the end of school with their teachers to sing happy birthday to Muntz Park. Many families stay and bring picnics.

It was also Raddlebarn Primary School's Centenary year in 2005 and they had an ornamental gate installed for the children to access the park more safely. The artist Jon Mills spent a week at school working with the children. The BBC wrote an article featuring some of the children's work. We have worked with Raddlebarn School and a local ranger to plant trees and bulbs on either side of this new gate. The gates were opened by the Mayor in January 2006 on the very last day of the schools centenary year.

We organise Work parties, attend ward meetings and raise money for various park projects.

Our AGM is in February each year.

Let us know if you are interested in being involved in any of our work parties or come along to our next meeting or join our Facebook group.
